Fight for that Inch
“The inches we need are everywhere around us. They are in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch.” – Al Pachino (Any Given Sunday)
What would it be like to live a life filled with things that are worth fighting for? As I was typing that last sentance I realized my folly. My life is filled with such things. All of our lives are. I guess the real question is, what would it be like to be the kind of person who fights for the things that are worth it. All the stuff that isn’t worth it?… we keep it because it’s a nice place to hide. The problem is that it makes up such a large portion of our lives. We must have a lot to hide. As always, there is some deeper issue. Something too heavy for an ordinary day like this.
