Bold As A Lion
“The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” – Proverbs 28:1
Sometimes it feels like it’s the self-righteous that are as bold as lions and the truly righteous that flee. Have you ever noticed that? I see it with professional athletes, politicians, actors, and corporate CEO’s. There are some who are timid and appear to be righteous, but they seem as if they are out of their league. There are others who don’t appear to be righteous at all, but seam to be as bold as lions. It’s as if these bold people have a built in sense of their own legitimacy and it carries them quite far in life. They appear convinced that they should be relied on, that they should be put in the most influential roles in our society. They are very convincing. They often achieve a great measure of worldly success in their lives. Observing these two groups may lead us to believe that we have a choice between two options. We either become a bold self-righteous achiever or we go limp and fade into insignificance. The truth is, neither of these paths grow out of true righteousness. True righteousness is the result of receiving your identity from your creator. The settled security that you get from that kind of righteousness can not be shaken. It will truly make you as bold as a lion.
The self-righteous people go down in burning flames. Their self-security crumbles in the face of life’s challenges. It is almost startling to watch them fall from the heights. We’ve seen it with celebrities a thousand times. The timid people slump off into oblivion and little is heard of them. Let your creator restore you and tell you who you are. There will be nothing that can question the validity of that and a new kind of boldness will emerge.
